Animals Rescued at House Fire

Last Thursday, the Washington Township Fire Department and Long Valley First Aid Squad we're dispatched to 227 Beacon Hill Road for a reported house fire. Fairmount Chief 1 was first to arrive and updated responding units of a working fire in the basement. Long Valley Engine 1-1 arrived shortly after the update and assisted Fairmount with the initial attack and primary search of the residence. Within minutes, firefighters located several pets within the home including 2 dogs, 1 cat, 1 bird, and 2 chinchillas. All pets were treated by the first aid squad and local animal hospital. The fire was placed under control after 30 minutes. Unfortunately, the cat and bird succumbed to their injuries. Thank you to Califon Fire and Chester Fire for providing their RIC Teams.
